Mobile Devices + = Disaster Plans Sales Opps

Mobile Devices + = Disaster Plans Sales Opps -

The role of mobile devices in planning disaster is not something distribution partners have generally emphasized their SMB customers. But do not do it, they miss good opportunities.

Mobile devices can play an important role in disaster recovery (aka business continuity and / or organizational resilience, depending on who you talk to), said Mark Bowker, senior research analyst market global IT Enterprise Strategy Group Inc. "Smartphones and tablets can potentially be used to gain access to data and applications where you can not get to your workplace, or have the local destruction of your primary devices "says Bowker.

at the same time, mobile devices have given certain types of business insurance against events that may stop business operations." mobile devices offer 'location of insensitivity "that meaning that operations can be carried out regardless of where the business is, and in many companies, regardless of where the customers are, "says Philip January Rothstein, President of Brookfield, Connecticut . based Rothstein Associates Inc., a planning service provider of business continuity and disaster recovery

Formulation of a PLaN

insensitive Locationally companies -. in which operations, customer service, and perhaps even data and applications are distributed among a number of remote mobile devices - can enjoy a certain degree of immunity against it Rothstein calls a typical recovery scenario disaster "where you have a piece of equipment breaks down, or you need to leave the office for a few days. "

with the more centralized organizations, these organizations may want to make plans for the day of their server goes down or a hurricane, and consider the role mobile devices can play in keeping things going .

This is where competent VARs and other channel partners can be helpful, and create a new business for themselves in the process, according to Bowker. "being able to explain the role of the devices mobile in disaster recovery provides great opportunities for channel partners who are able to teach their customers about, and arm them, the technology that responds to what can be a real business problem, "he said .

According to Bowker, you need to talk with customers about how their employees will have access to applications and data in case of disaster, and perhaps more importantly, how they will stay in touch with customers and each other using mobile devices should be a snowstorm, the flu epidemic, or other event.

Setting up an emergency plan that integrates mobile devices begins with a simple inventory of employees' iPhones, iPads and Android-based phones and tablets, according to Bowker. This is followed by evaluation of technologies that enable employees to access data and / or a complete desktop with applications in situations where a vital piece of equipment is down, or the necessary access to a physical office are not available.

The training of employees, according to Bowker, "can be as simple as providing them with documentation that tells them that in the event of any kind of stop," These are the options available for you to reach applications, data and desktops. "

Channel pros who help customers navigate this process are themselves installed strategically to win more related business, Bowker note. "Helping a client as will naturally open some new doors where they will turn to you for further advice as they implement the plan," he said. "The technologies involved can sometimes be very complex," Bowker adds, "that will offer even more opportunities to guide them."

and, as in other situations, how you sell your expertise matters a lot. "do as I do, not just what I say, 'is the most powerful marketing message, "says Rothstein." Think about what you do in terms of disaster recovery, and this for example to your customers. "

Improve customer service with flexible backup services -

As founder and owner of Syfer Networks in Dallas, Sonny Williams prides itself to its homework. There are two years, Williams decided to transfer the focus Syfer to be a more traditional IT services company in a managed services provider. At that time, Williams was looking to replace the spam filter used Syfer heritage. After much research, Williams discovered GFI MailEssentials GFI online. For Williams, the GFI product performed better as a spam filter than the previous product, mainly because of a reduction of false positives. "I spent all my clients to GFI MailEssentials Online," recalls Williams. It was then that Syfer began his relationship with GFI.

In June 2013, Williams was looking a new backup vendor. "the vendor we used was expensive and many of my clients do not want to use the backup product," Williams said. Williams then launched into an exhaustive exercise of due diligence, which involves the assessment of approximately 70 different backup products and trace the different functions of a spreadsheet. In October, Williams decided to go with GFI MAX backup, hybrid cloud solution based on cloud disk to disk technology. "The product was in my price range and had all the abilities I was looking for except one," Williams said.

Mainly, Williams was sold on the ability to backup GFI MAX to allow Syfer accommodate data on its own servers in its own data center. While Syfer does not currently have its own data center, Williams said this ability will Syfer provide backup services HIPPA compliant in the future to its healthcare industry clients. Besides the HIPPA compliance, with physical access to the data will Syfer to provide fully operational backups within hours. "I want to offer this kind of personal computing service to my clients at a fraction of the cost of having their own internal IT department," says Williams

Another advantage for GFI MAX backup :. Its ability to block level or industry level backups. "This is a high priority because many of my clients have slow Internet connections," says Williams. While many backup companies make a full and regular backup incremental backups and for changes, GFI takes a little longer away with "only save the data bits that have changed, so I do not have to back up an entire file," Williams said Furthermore, GFI MAX Backup allows Syfer time restores to its customers. - another way for Williams . to provide customers with personalized service

and for a feature - complete imaging machine - GFI MAX backup did not first Williams said a beta version was introduced a month after his first implemented the product. Indeed, it is the continuous introduction of services and improvements that impresses Williams more about GFI and its products. "GFI is dedicated to creating products that meet the needs their customers, "said Williams, a philosophy which itself wife. "I've never lost a customer, and I think it is because I can provide a high level of security to my customers without breaking the bank."

How to build an MSP Income and Profit motor with full protection of data -

Today, companies create more data than ever, in more places than ever. As such, MSPs today must change their models to include a comprehensive strategy for data protection. But which one? What should you look for? Is it all about the technology? What about the global platform from a supplier? The foundation of any comprehensive strategy for data protection must be able to protect a corporate data wherever it lives on premise, in the cloud, in virtualized environments, and even 3rd party SaaS applications.

View this webcast to learn that the main Datto partners are to benefit from the full protection of data for recurring revenue.

4 Must-Have capabilities of a backup provider

8:02 PM Add Comment
4 Must-Have capabilities of a backup provider -

If you ask a group of MSPs their definition of data protection, there would be little consensus among them. Some will say that there is nothing more than to ensure that data is backed up. Others may take a wider net and include the servers hosting the data. Others may think data protection is more on collectibility.

However, such a disagreement, while notable, did you or your customers directly affect. But what if you and your backup provider disagree on data protection mechanisms? To offer your customers a complete data protection, here are four your supplier capabilities must have:

Ability 1: Backup Everything

During you 're well aware of all the different data sets that can be saved (files, the state of the operating system and the system, a full image) and the corresponding recovery methods (bare metal, P2V, continues ), the question remains: "What data should be saved? "

the simple answer is" everything. "Your client is waiting to get his business back up and running in case of disaster. To meet this requirement, you should be able to save everything and anything that can need to be recovered at some point.

This is a challenge, it is necessary to put in place guidelines for specific data is important to your customers.

whether your customer wants to hire you to save and retrieve each part of the business environment, you need to think about what is the data needed to get that customer back and running the basic list looks like this.:

  • servers (physical and virtual) -With VMs springing both inside and outside the walls of the company, it is important to be able to dynamically identify when and where they are, they can easily be included as part of a backup.
  • workstations (PCs and laptops) -Without including workstations in your client's recovery plan, there will be no way to connect to all the servers that you are protecting.
  • mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) -These devices need protection to ensure user productivity and security of mobile data.

by integrating these three backup sets in a data protection strategy, your offer not only protect the data itself, but also the company's ability to access and the use.

capacity 2: more than a backup approach

Some of you are in the camp onsite backup and others are firmly in the cloud, while others go the hybrid route. Each approach has advantages and disadvantages that you weighed before deciding on a solution.

But none of the above options, if it is offered as a backup option only, is sufficient because no single backup approach meets the needs of everyone. So sometimes the data will be there, other times in the cloud, and sometimes it will be protected using a hybrid approach.

But there is more to it . Just as you need to backup, your data protection capabilities should include options in these options. Both offerings come to mind :. A choice of cloud storage providers and what I call based on the priority of hybrid backup

If you use an approach to cloud or hybrid, you probably provide all clients with backups from the same supplier storage. But if a customer wants his data stored in its own corporate cloud (private cloud deployments) and another wants to use a public cloud popular as AWS or Microsoft Azure? Whether because the customer or the supplier already has a vast cloud infrastructure or legal requirements, it is important that the backup service provider allows the flexibility to define the clouds will be used for offsite backup. To meet these needs, your backup offer must include a choice of cloud providers.

For those taking a hybrid approach to cloud backup and keep a copy on places backups, you are closer to give your customers more recovery options in case when strikes disaster. One of the problems with hybrid cloud based backups, however, is local capacity . Your storage space on site is not infinitely expandable as your cloud storage, so eventually your local storage is no longer the ability to hold all server and set of data to be recovered after a disaster.

This is why you should keep a copy of the most critical data in your client (which could be defined by the device, application, users, and / or files) local storage. This is traditionally done with a backup appliance connection cloud, either physical or virtual modes. This way, critical systems, applications and customer data are always on hand, with the data that fits in the "all" category remaining in the cloud.

Datto: Listening and Looking Forward

Datto: Listening and Looking Forward -

Rob Rae is vice president of business development at Datto Inc. He recently spoke with Michael Siggins, publisher of Channelpro-SMB , the balance between the current needs of MSPs and their end users while innovating for the future. This is an excerpt published this conversation

Channelpro-SMB :. In your business, you need to be constantly changing. What you learn from your partners and customers

Rob Rae: From a technological point of view, there are obviously a number of different ways designing your roadmap ... but ultimately what drives that is based partners. We are a channel company only. It is something that we take very, very proudly. [It’s] finally, how can we continue to make more profitable MSPs. So when we look at our track record, we look at where technology is going, it is (a) where can you find new opportunities for our customers, and (b) how can we reduce the total cost of ownership or make it easier for them to make more money in the current stock of goods.

Datto, we are very proud to say, just got our first assessment billion in December and we did exclusively with the channel. So listen to your customers, like us, is essential for you to continue to build momentum and help your customers find more in the stack.

Datto Backupify acquired in December 2014. This allowed us to get into the backup space SAS, because we saw a lot of physical things moved to the cloud. How an MSP remain profitable in this cloud? You must have a service or some type of layer you can still sell your customers, and that's why we came up with Office 365 backup. Mac continues to grow, so we have a Mac backup that will come soon.

We launched our agents and now Linux Linux environments can save. So it is constantly evolving as the needs of MSPs are. I think that's where our growth was fueled from

Channelpro-SMB :? How to reconcile the needs of end users and the needs and skills of your customers continue to innovate

Rae: We have a fantastic crew at Datto is very preliminary garde. Then we validate by MSP. The key is, well, everything is going to the cloud. We all become CSPs. But as when we converted resellers managed service providers, this is an evolution.

The key is to continue to focus on what's next and development towards what is next. And this balance comes from the application to the end user [and] MSP accomplishment. There is a delicate balance, making sure you have a pulse of your customers in our case, the MSP-MSP and having a pulse of what their customers are looking for is really critical.

Channelpro-SMB: How do you reach the next billion?

Rae: There are different ways you can design your roadmap. Our commitment is to stay 100 percent channel focused. We have no intention of wavering from it, which means for us to continue this accelerated growth, we must constantly innovate new technologies. We have our DNA [Datto Networking Appliance Router] product, we announced DattoCon15, which will help MSPs from a point of view of connectivity. We mentioned the Apple agent, we mentioned the Linux agent. ... We are confident that we can continue on the fast track we're on. The company that will win is the one that continues to innovate and grow our customers.

Note that much of what we do is not so much about speeds and feeds. We leave with great educational content, sales techniques, marketing techniques. We invest a lot of money to help our partners in their strategy go-to-market. So we got that nice balance between being a first technology company with technology that works, but also be able to demonstrate to our customers, train our customers and help our customers on the implementation of how powerful I sell it? How can I add value to this and how can I make recurring revenue out of it

Channelpro-SMB :? On this first billion, how much is the recurring revenue

Rae: Most of it. And it's the same thing we see with the channel. This does not include the sale of real hardware. The hardware is a physical cost. It puts skin in the game. It requires your customers to make this investment. It is a traditional sale that I think people are used to. That said, the appearance of recurring revenue is the critical part.

We have recently slashed prices of our equipment. We do not want the Capex is the question to stop the sale. We want to encourage them to focus on recurring revenue, which is what we're all in this game for

Channelpro-SMB.? What are the best features you offer partners

Rae: one of the things I talked a little about how to show this stuff. Everyone understands the disaster recovery backup, even the typical layman. The key is that other applications can go with this and how do you position it? We're not focusing as [on] data backup, but the recovery thereof and continuity around him. How do I keep my business and keep it going down? Therefore, you need to focus your sales on things like the cost of this downtime more than the reason for the downtime. If you focus your marketing around the cost of downtime, you can fill this gap through virtualization. So we came up with an RTO calculator it two years ago to help people calculate downtime in an elevator pitch.

More recently, we have done with the demo kit disaster, which helps people demonstrate the continuity of their customers a very easy way. So when you ask what assets are there a ton. ... We have almost all the tools that MSPs would need to be able to correctly position the continuity

Channelpro-SMB :. You just finished co-writing your first book, Under Attack :. How to protect your business and bank account fast growing, highly motivated and highly hazardous CyberCrime Rings [Celebrity Press, Jan. 2016] Can you tell us a give insight

Rae: is a view of the end user and speaks in the same conversation I was going with you. I use some very basic examples for very small businesses in situations where downtime is affecting their business ... part of the problem is that no one thinks that the cost of this is that until they are effectively in this nightmare scenario. So the idea here was to help MSPs be able to position it correctly in very simple examples base. It is designed for end user to understand the continuity

Channelpro-SMB: .. Talk about DattoCon16

Rae: This will be our fourth annual event. It is in Nashville, Tennessee on June 20. The content is designed around helping people with their sales of continuity in a perspective MSP. Our keynote speaker is Steve Wozniak. ... We have some wonderful, wonderful content ... and we will ensure that it is of value.

StorageCraft Adds Per-Socket Licensing ShadowProtect SPX

StorageCraft Adds Per-Socket Licensing ShadowProtect SPX -

StorageCraft Technology Corp. introduced a new licensing option for its backup and disaster recovery ShadowProtect SPX allowing MSP pay based on the number of CPU sockets they use.

under the new regime, SPX ShadowProtect license fees reflect the number of shots in the host environment for a buyer. This is a likely option to hold appeal for users of the virtual edition of ShadowProtect SPX, according to Brian Wistisen, director of StorageCraft Draper Utah, product marketing.

"virtual world is a more fluid," he observes, with virtual machines appearing, disappearing, and moving at fast pace. "It is not a pleasant experience to have to go through the process of purchase every time a new VM is added or removed from service. "

Per-socket licensing savings MSPs license consumption monitoring hassle and simplifies cost forecast. It can also save money, depending on the configuration and density of their host virtual infrastructure.

"In general, if you are in this range may be five to six VMs, then it would be better to take the decision path," says product manager ShadowProtect SPX Cody Carpenter. "If you only have a couple of VMs per host, it would be more cost effective to go with licensing based on customer "

the new license per socket plans are available in two varieties. Essentials socket Edition, an updated two-socket bundle for virtual environments with up to six outlets, and standard socket Edition, which enables users with more than six catches buy an individually taken licenses. currently, the both options are available on a perpetual basis only for environments running on hypervisor software from VMware and Microsoft. StorageCraft plans to add support for Citrix XenServer deployments in the future and can add a variation by subscription, but declined to specify the timeframe is for change.

StorageCraft is quick to recognize that license per socket is hardly a newcomer to the BDR market. Acronis, Unitrends and Veeam are three of the many vendors that already offer. Adding a socket-based licensing model for its own using StorageCraft level the playing field against these companies.

"on Socket-based license is sort of become a standard, and it also allows for easier comparison with the competition," said Carpenter.

Boston-based private equity today's announcement is the latest in a series of StorageCraft movements in what has already been held in January 2016, the company accepted an investment of $ 187 million from TA Associates. The following month, it launched a temporary supply of credit to buyers of its solution StorageCraft Cloud Services, presented a joint solution based on NAS with BDR Buffalo Americas, and introduced a new version of ShadowProtect Granular Recovery for Exchange.
